West Mercia Women’s Aid (WMWA) works with women for whom ‘home’ is not a safe place to be. They may call our 24/7 Helpline just because they need to tell somebody and be believed. They may need information and advice so they can weigh up their options. Some escape with just what they can carry to our safe spaces – our refuges and satellite accommodation. Some seek support in securing the legal and criminal justice protection they need in order to be safe, and stay safe in their own homes. They may join with other women who share their experience in our online and face-to-face recovery groups. Some may feel ready to engage in talking therapy to help them explore and manage the trauma of being in a relationship with someone who says that they love you, and is then cruel, controlling and aggressive. The choice is theirs,
Where children are affected, we provide age-appropriate group and 1:1 support to process and recover from the experience of living with domestic abuse, and to recognise the behaviours that make up a healthy relationship. Our vision is for a world free from domestic abuse, and we focus not only on support but also on awareness-raising and prevention.
